Partial training equivalence and Bridging program
When candidates are granted partial diploma equivalence by decision of the Order, they are generally asked to complete a bridging program at the Université de Montréal’s School of Optometry (ÉOUM). This training program may vary depending on each candidate’s knowledge and skill level.
Admission to the Bridging program
- The ÉOUM admits candidates to the bridging program based on the available number of spaces.
- It is possible that candidates recommended for the bridging program may potentially be placed on a waiting list when no spaces are available.
Approximate duration
- 12 to 24 months.
French language requirement at the EOUM
- Candidates must take the international French proficiency test (TFI) before they can be admitted to any bridging program at the ÉOUM. Therefore, candidates must know French in order to be admitted to the program.
Success of the Bridging prgram
1. Candidates are deemed to have successfully completed the bridging program when they pass:
- the exam from the Optometry Examining Board of Canada;
- any other final exam recognized by the Order.

2. Once they have successfully completed the bridging program and the CACO, candidates must submit proof of their success so that the Ordre des optométristes du Québec can grant them training equivalence, authorize their registration on the Roll and issue them the required permit to practice optometry.
